Sharjah Islamic Culture Capital Monument
It rises from the ground level by 42 meters. The platform on which the monument project is erected is 650 square meters. The base area of the monument is 50 meters high. The lower diameter of the column is 3.3 meters and the upper diameter is 2.6 meters. The platform covers three different types of Granite while the base of the column is covered with concrete reinforced with glass fibers and granite.
The choice of Sharjah as the capital of Islamic culture came within the framework of the Islamic Culture Capitals Program, which is supervised and sponsored by the Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO) after it conformed to the basic conditions and standards of the Islamic cultural capitals.
Sharjah was crowned with the endorsement of the 4th Islamic Conference of Culture Ministers held in Algiers in December 2004 due to its distinguished cultural history and tangible material and intellectual effects.
The main column is covered with green granite and the spiral bar that surrounds the column is made of aluminum with different finishes to create a kind of contrast to facilitate the reading of the verses of the generous number of 28 verses from the Holy Quran carrying the meaning of science and the call for learning and the scientists. The top of the monument is 12 columns, which link 12 arcades topped by a golden dome.
